By Air

Glasgow International Airport

This airport has direct flights from various UK and international airports and is located just eight miles (13 kilometres) west of Glasgow City Centre. The airlines that fly into Glasgow International Airport from the UK and Ireland are listed below. All of these airlines offer very cheap flights to Glasgow if you book in advance using their websites. Getting to Glasgow city centre from Glasgow International Airport

Road: It is a 20-minute drive along the M8 to Glasgow city centre.

Train: The nearest train station is Paisley's Gilmour Street station, located 2 miles from the airport. A regular bus service runs between the airport and the train station or taxis are available. Trains run to Glasgow Central Station regularly (eight trains per hour, Monday – Saturday, five trains per hour, Sunday).

Bus: Buses run to Glasgow City Centre from outside the terminal every 15 minutes or less.

Taxis: Taxis are available 24 hours a day from the taxi rank outside the terminal. The journey takes about 20 minutes (outside of rush hour) and costs approximately €22.00 (£15.00).

Prestwick International Airport

Prestwick International Airport is located 30 miles (48 kilometres) south of Glasgow City Centre, but has excellent transport links to Glasgow City Centre. Ryanair fly into Prestwick International Airport and offer very cheap flights to Glasgow if you book in advance using their website.

Getting to Glasgow city centre from Prestwick International Airport

Road: It is approximately a 30-minute drive along the A77/M77 to Glasgow city centre.

Train: The airport has its own train station. Trains run every 30 minutes and the journey to the Glasgow Central Station takes 45 minutes. All passengers receive a 50% discount on the standard train fares on production of their airline ticket.

Coach: A coach service runs to Glasgow Buchanan Street Station every hour (every 30 minutes during peak times). The journey takes approximately 50 minutes.

By Train

Glasgow Central Station is a key hub in the national rail network and is situated in the city centre. London is approximately 6 hours away by train. Glasgow Queen Street station is another main line station situated in the city centre. Its Express service to Edinburgh takes less than 50 minutes and runs every 15 minutes.

If you can commit in advance to traveling on a specific date and time you can get some good travel offers from all of the train companies. The following train companies travel to Glasgow:

GNER – Connects Glasgow from various stations including London King's Cross, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds and York.

By Coach

National Express provide long distance bus and coach services throughout the UK and in association with Scottish City Link and Eurolines connect the destination to 25 European countries and 1200 locations in England, Scotland and Wales. Eurolines operate long distance coach service from 25 European countries and in conjunction with National Express and Scottish City Link connect the destination with Continental Europe and 1200 UK locations. By Sea

Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley can be reached via a number of ferry routes across the Irish Sea, the North Sea, or the English Channel. Within the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley area Caledonian MacBrayne operate a fleet of 28 ferries for island hopping around Scotland ‘s picturesque Atlantic coast, and Western Ferries Clyde Ltd operate sailings across the Clyde Estuary between Dunoon and Gourock.

P&O Ferries, Stena Line and Seacat Scotland operate daily ferry routes across the Irish Sea from Belfast to Stranraer - 90 minutes south of Glasgow.

 

Taxis

Glasgow has the cheapest taxis in the UK. Black hackney cabs are metered and are available at ranks and on the street, look out for the yellow light which means they are available. From a city centre hotel to the SECC expect to pay about £4 (5.60 euro).

Public Transport

Glasgow has an excellent public transport network. The SECC is serviced by low level train from Central Station with a 5 minute journey time. The Underground is a great way to cross from the City Centre to Hillhead in the West End. http://www.spt.co.uk for local travel information
